People Against Incineration (PAIN)
2010 was the culmination of six years of learning, organising and volunteering by the Only Solutions team, as the Sherwood Forest (Rufford) Incinerator Inquiry took place at the Rainworth Village Hall. The Inquiry fully occupied us throughout October 2010. Only Solutions is forever grateful for the fantastic involvement of members of the communities of Rainworth and Forest Town, and of course the Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust and Newark and Sherwood District Council. We all eagerly await the decision, expected on or before 31st May 2011.
United Kingdom Without Incineration Network (UKWIN)
Throughout 2010 Only Solutions continued to fulfil our contract to provide National Coordination to UKWIN. Josh played an active role in maintaining and updating the interactive map and table of existing and potential waste incinerators. Having already made an impression on the trade press, in 2010 UKWIN broke through to attract the attention of the national media. UKWIN featured in publications such as Private Eye and The Guardian, and on two consecutive days in December we appeared in the Financial Times and The Independent. In 2010 the membership of UKWIN grew to encompass more than 80 local campaign groups!
Audit Commission Act (ACA)
2010 also saw a return to the High Court for Veolia’s appeal in July. Veolia failed in their attempt to overturn the 2009 decision by Justice Cranston. Read the Orchard News Bureau’s account of the case.
